I'M OBSESSED WITH RAE DUNN, AND I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE!
If you haven't heard of Rae Dunn, you may not want to know because you will become just as obsessed as all us other crazed fans. (Haha). What is Rae Dunn you might ask? Rae Dunn is the artisan who creates these perfectly imperfect pottery that includes mugs, plates, bowls, trays, bake pans, planters, pitchers, etc... the list goes on. She has created several different designs, but my obsession lies with her large letter designs.
Rae Dunn pottery can be found at places like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Homegoods for a very reasonable price, but the large letters are harder to find. They can be found on websites such as Poshmark, Ebay, Amazon, but you will pay double, triple or more for them. I like to just pick them up when I find them...it's like a treasure hunt, and that is part of the fun in collecting them.
I promise this post isn't just about pottery...
As you may have noticed, most of my challenge paintings are of spring-ish flowers except for the occasional switching it up. I decided that today's flower bouquet should be paired with a Rae Dunn mug.
I'm getting pretty comfortable with painting these roses with palette knife, but other flowers still give me a struggle. I love how I can add the thick paint and just swirl it in the direction of the petals and presto...roses.
I wanted this painting to just scream Spring, and not because of the large letters on the mug rather through color. I love how the violets and greens work together, and it definitely gives me all the spring vibes.
I'm so glad that I decided to participate in this challenge even though some days is difficult...I'm learning so much and that makes every struggle worth it.
