I have been thinking a lot about home lately, and how I would define it. Maybe because of the recent house portraits I’ve painted or maybe because of this season of staying at home (probably both). Either way, it has been on my mind.
Home is where dreams are made, new chapters begin, and stories end. It’s being carried over the threshold, welcoming a new baby, hot meals around the table talking about the day, holiday celebrations, birthday parties, family movie nights, seeking wise council, laughing, crying, and praying together, high school graduations, collage diplomas, planning weddings, and saying goodbye. It’s waiting for the kids to return home for a visit and holding the first grandchild. Home is our own little warm, cozy, and safe part of the world where we feel free to let life happen. Home is where our story begins and ends.

If you are anything like me and my family, you have found yourself spending more time in the kitchen since the stay home order. I have been doing more home cooked meals, baking, fermenting komboucha and kefir, and I even joined the "sour dough" club. I find it comforting knowing I'm preparing something delicious and nourishing for my family, and we all can use some extra comfort during a time like this.

I've been surrounded by flowers all week and it has been so beautiful. It's this time every year when I begin my annual "morning garden walks". With coffee in hand, I visit the raised vegetable gardens first, and then make my way along the pavement surrounding the pool towards my favorite flower garden in the back corner of our lot where it is ever changing. I love that magical feeling of discovering that another flower has emerged from the soil and is showing off its beauty. It is so special and so inspiring.
My 2019 top 3 Christmas gifts | gifts for artists | Beverly Gurganus Fine Art
If I'm being honest (which I have no reason to be otherwise), I am a little hesitant to write this blog post about my top Christmas gifts in fear that it will be received as an excuse to brag rather than its intent of being informative and helpful. I sought out advice from a few trusted sources, and with their positive feedback, I'm going to silence my fear and go for it.
I'm so excited to introduce my new custom paintings "A Mother's Crown" just in time for Mother's Day!
If you haven't learned by now, crowns have become my thing, and I am always dreaming up ideas on how to paint them. I have shared in previous blog post about how my Children of the King: Twirly Dresses was birthed with the intentions to send a message of value to young girls about their value. I'm not talking about the prideful kind of value, but the value they have to their heavenly father. We live in a world full of expectations, labels, and comparisons. Twirly Dresses is a colorful reminder to embrace who we were created to be, and when you are happy, you can't help but to dance and twirl.
