Friday's Feature: Warming Up In Winter

I knew when we started having unseasonably warm temperatures in February that it was temporary.  Sure enough, the past two weeks have been pretty chilly.  All I want to do during colder weather is snuggle up in a blanket, and sit in front of a fire place with coffee in hand...whose with me? Speaking of winter weather and coffee...it is time for another Friday's Feature so grab your coffee (I'll wait), and I will tell you about another painting. Warming Up In Winter  11x14 oil on canvas The Hampton Roads / Tidewater area of Virginia is not known for snow...in...

Friday's Feature: Maggie

Introducing FRIDAY'S FEATURE! I love a good story especially one that helps me relate to someone or something.  When shopping at estate sales or antiquing many interesting items can be found, but when the history of that piece is unveiled, it becomes something special.  The who's, what's, when's, where's, and how's creates a connection to that piece that may not exist if those stories are never told.  Everything has a story, and it just needs someone to tell it.  That is what I plan to do with my Friday's Feature...tell the stories behind my paintings.  Each post will feature one painting, and I...

Are you a control freak?

I am a control freak!  I like to have things planned, how it will be executed, what to expect, and what the final out come will be.  Spontaneous will never be a word that describes me, and last minute changes of plans can ruin my day (at least that is how it seems until I digest the "change" and realize it really isn't so bad). 30 in 30 Challenge

I have seen artists participate in A Painting A Day program, and I thought that one day I would do a challenge like that. I discovered a podcast hosted by Artist Leslie Saeta as well as a guest co host.  This podcast, Artists Helping Artists (AHA) has been a wealth of information for me as I am growing my business.  Leslie hosted a 30 in 30 challenge this past fall, and she peaked my interest when she talked about her paintings and the paintings of other participating artists.  So when I heard that she was doing another 30 in 30...

Excited To Be Featured In the Chesapeake's Clipper

It was a privilege to sit down with Bob Ruegsegger, a correspondent with the Chesapeake Clipper, in mid October to share my story.  His calm and friendly spirit eased my nerves (I'm a bit of an introvert), and conversation became as if I were talking with an old friend over coffee. The interview started in my home studio where we talked about my desire for art, my past profession as an art teacher, my inspirations, my preferred subject matter and mediums, my reasons for waiting until now to take this large leap in my art career, and my visions for...
